Why are bacterial filters required to be added to a spirometer?
Bacterial / Viral filters are to be used as part of the airway and ventilation circuit. They are designed to filter bacterial and viral pathogens before expired air is vented to atmosphere.
Using mouthpieces such as the Scout tube and spirette offer no infection control, and therefore additional protection should be used during the pandemic.
